I think the way other very similar sites have gained popularity is through widgets that other websites can embed - I've never been to CodePen to create something, yet I've used it dozens of times.
I think lack of AI is probably a major issue in two ways: firstly many AI can do exactly what you do with the boilerplate setup, and secondly many people want AI to help them with finicky stuff like coding animations.

One thing That Worked for me was building in public on X / Twitter.
When I was building Logoai.in, I tried to share the progress failures, and the community supported a lot.
I got a thousand users in a week thanks to that.
