Wonder how much SF (the capitalismic Foundation, not the de facto capital named after a saint)
can substitute for the core functions of NSF since they have been arguably much more effective than NSF (in at least their usual, nonbio domains)..
now that they are moving into bio(tech..)

Anecdata: a lot of bleeding edge stuff has been funded by SF not NSF.
They also do a lot of shortterm "Collaborations", something not quite done by NSF
