I use them constantly to, and you almost gave me a heart attack.
Based on the plan doc, it looks like they’re not eliminating them. They’re consolidating the mechanism with custom search engines and creating a prefs UI for defining either one.
Ah, I use them all the time!
In Chrome, the search engines can also just act like a bookmark (if you leave out the %s it just goes to that URL).
Maybe Firefox can add that?
I don't know whether Firefox searches let you use JS URLs though...
