I remember reading decades ago (before injection became the norm) a book on "maintaining your British car". Lots of tongue-in-cheek, the author didn't have a high opinion of them but it had a lot of useful advice on maintaining budget cars in general.
One chapter was titled "'Carburettor' is French for 'Don't ever touch it'", and elaborated on why (mostly, too many ways to do it wrong).
