I've created several PDF documents written in plain text (CommonMark plus pandoc-compatible extensions) that showcase what's possible with Markdown and the ConTeXt typesetting system. People claim that AsciiDoc and reStructuredText are "better" than Markdown for technical documentation, without citing a feature matrix.
My hope is that claimants will offer their own feature matrix---or improve mine---to help writers assess what text format meets their needs.
