In which case, nerdy-ness is no longer favored. This is only a brief response, I could write on and on about other examples of traits that work well under one set of circumstances, but don't work so well in other. In other words, evolution favors those who do well under unpredictable future circumstances. Randomness can play an large role in what is favored in the future.
