What kind of severance packages does this article think even long tenured people were or are getting? Most provide only enough money to survive a couple of months.
> requent job changes, however, translate into a much smaller severance package
This is the cutest quote I have seen this year.
IBM in the US eliminated its severance real package many years ago, everyone fired gets the same amount, 2 months notice. This translates into a 2 month severance because when you are notified, you loose your system access.
Why 2 months ? IIRC it is due to a loophole in an old Federal Plant Closing Law. I am sure that loophole will be closed before 2028.
I wonder how many other large companies do the same as IBM ?
Who will determine how much people will get ? How will it be determined ?
I fully expect if this is put in place in the US (doubtful), it will be equivalent to the current minimum wage, were people on UBI will be in sever poverty. With the rich getting richer by something like 25% per year.
Again I see the US heading directly into an economy very similar to an old TV show called "Incorporated". 99.9% of the population will live in poverty.
You’re right, it’s not universal. It would be more about extending unemployment benefits beyond the current 6 months in the US until you qualify for a pension.

I feel this is true, but there is a big but:

Benefits after job loss are not UBI. Really weak clickbait attempt.
