I’m currently traveling through Ethiopia, and it feels like 80% of the cars on the roads here are either BYD or some other Chinese maker I’ve never heard of. All EVs - and this is in a country with very unreliable power. Same thing in South Africa - the Chinese brands are absolutely massive and sell for about $25k for a fully modern car.

In the case of Ethiopia, they banned combustion vehicles to stoke EV uptake to avoid oil imports.
